VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 19 / 65 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND MacAUSLAND, Harvey Robert WWII & KOREA Harvey was born on April 7, 1916, in Elmsdale, PEI, the eighth child of Melvin and Louise (Lutie Turner) MacAusland. He was inducted into the Navy on August 13, 1943. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. He was honourably discharged on October 30, 1945, but re-enlisted and served until he retired in 1966. He also fought in the Korean War. His rank was Boatswain’s Mate First Class (CB). Harvey received the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He spent most of his time in the Philippines and was on an ammunition ship when at sea. Harvey passed away on December 26, 1985, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. MacAUSLAND, Donald WWII Donald was born in Elmsdale, PEI, the son of Melvin and Louise MacAusland. He voluntarily joined the Royal Canadian Navy on July 11, 1940, as an Ordinary Seaman, promoted to Petty Officer, Gunnery rating. He served for forty months at sea and twenty months ashore leaving active service on July 13, 1945. He served on HMC Charlottetown, HMCS Stadacona, HMCS St. Laurent, HMCS St. Clair, HMCS Chaleur and HMCS Prestonian. He received four medals: 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and Canadian War Medal. MABEY, Elmer Allistair WWII Elmer was born in Tryon on June 2, 1918, the son of Albert Mabey and Ellen McNeill. He enlisted in September 1939 with the RCNVS and served as a telegraphist during World War II. In 1941, he drowned off the coast of Halifax near Sambro Island as the result of an accidental explosion and fire in the engine room. Two officers and seventeen men were lost.
