VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 19 / 67 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND MacDONALD, Warren C. WWII Sgt. Warren MacDonald was born in 1912 in long Creek, PEI to parents James and Eliza Jane (MacEachern) MacDonald. He volunteered for active service at the outbreak of World War II and following Basic training and trade training in the Canadian Provost Corps was shipped overseas. He would serve overseas for over five and half years before returning back to Long Creek. Warren was one of the first military police (MP) to enter Amsterdam following the Armistice. This is where he would attain the rank of Sergeant. His duties would now require preparation to reclaiming inundated land, rebuilding roadways and reconstruction of bridges. He also served as one of the personal bodyguards for King George. Following his return to Canada, he lived a short time in Charlottetown prior to purchasing a farm in Long Creek with his wife Kathleen McCannell. He would also operate a small country store also in Long Creek. Warren and Kathleen raised two children. Warren passed away in 1986 and is buried in Long Creek United Baptist Cemetery. MacDONALD, Norman WWI & WWII Norman was born on August 30, 1894 in Rice Point, to parents Archibald B. and Isabel (MacKenzie) MacDonald. His siblings were: Angus, Flora Isabel, Louise Christina, Mary Eliza, Flora Isabel II, Donald, John, and Margaret Sophia. Norman MacDonald was working as a farmer in Rice Point when he enlisted. He was already active with the 82nd Regiment Militia. MacDonald volunteered with the 105th Overseas Battalion in Charlottetown on October 11, 1915. He was twenty years old and single. Following the end of the World War I, Norman married Florence Catherine MacQuarrie in 1935. They settled in Nine Mile Creek. Norman and Florence had five children. Norman returned to service in the World War II. As a member of the Veterans Guard, he was responsible for recruit training in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following the end of World War II, they returned to the Island and he passed away in 1982. MacCAULL, George A. WWII George was born in Ellerslie, PEI, the son of Peter MacCaull and Glen Ramsay. He joined the PEI Light Horse in 1937 (Reserve). He married Thelma Tuplin and had one son, Elmer. On September 13, he led as point man two companies of Black Watch on attack at Dunkirk. He was listed as missing until December 13, 1944. The Black Watch casualties were around 200%, the most in Montgomery’s armies. While on leave before going overseas, talking to his brother-in-law, he knew that he made a mistake volunteering and not coming back but was going anyway. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, George VI Medal 1939-1945 and the Silver Cross.
