VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 19 / 79 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND MacPHAIL, Lloyd A. WWII Leading Seaman (Stoker) Lloyd A. MacPhail was born in New Dominion, in 1915, to Colin and Sadie (MacQuarrie). Lloyd joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a stoker at the outbreak of World War II in 1939. After serving on numerous ships and naval missions, he returned to New Dominion after the war in 1945-1946. Following his release from active service, he returned to New Dominion where he married Helen MacDonald and they raised their family of seven. Lloyd passed away in 1992. MacMILLAN (McDOUGALL), Annie Claire WWI Nursing Sister Annie McDougall was born in 1890. She lost her father in 1903 and her mother in 1905. She was then raised by her uncle Hugh McPhee in Canoe Cove. Upon finishing her schooling, Annie trained as a nurse at the Falconwood Hospital. When World War I commenced, Annie volunteered as a Nurse and was one of the first Nursing Sisters to serve overseas. She saw service in Belgium and France as well as England, where she was honoured by the King at Buckingham Palace. She was awarded the Order of the British Empire. On return to Canada, she married Captain Allison E. MacMillan and raised their family in Fairview, PEI. Annie passed away in 1970. MacMILLAN, Allison E. WWI & WWII Captain Allison E. MacMillan was born in Fairview in 1893. He was the son of John and Elizabeth (Hamilton) MacMillan. Allison volunteered for active service at the age of 21 and served with the 105th Overseas Battalion in Charlottetown. He was pictured overseas in a group photograph of the 104th Canadian Infantry Battalion, No. 2 Platoon, A Company in England, prior to his departure for Belgium and France where he saw action. Allison was awarded the Military Medal. On completion of his active service, Captain MacMillan would return to Fairview, PEI to raise a family on the family farm along with his wife N/S Annie (McDougall) MacMillan where they would raise their family. When World War II was declared in 1939, Allison also again volunteered to serve and did so for the second time. Allison died in 1970.
