VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 19 / 89 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND RITCHIE, Gerald Eugene WWII Gerald was born in Alberton District. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 4, 1940 and was discharged on April 18, 1945. He served as a Flying Officer in Canada, England, North Africa and Italy. RIGGS, Bruce PEACETIME Bruce was born in Charlottetown on July 4, 1933, the son of Earl and Gerdwood Riggs. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Engineers and trained at Gagetown, NB. He had parachute training in Wainwright, Alberta at the age of 36 and was the one of the oldest soldiers to take the paratrooping course. Bruce began his thirty-year career with the Canadian Army in 1952. He served in Egypt and German and spent many years stationed at CFB Gagetown followed by CFB Chilliwack. After retiring, he joined the Corps of Commissionaires and worked at the Charlottetown Airport. Bruce had been honorary president of the Charlottetown Legion since 2005. He was a Life Member who spent sixty years with The Royal Canadian Legion. He worked on the Poppy Campaign every year. He married Beverly Somers of Breadalbane, and they had one daughter. Bruce passed away in 2015 at the age of 82. He was buried in United Church Cemetery in Breadalbane, PEI. PROFIT, William Dunn WWII William was born in Alberton District, son of Charles Ray and Annie Ireland (Dunn) Profit. He enlisted in the Army on April 15, 1943 and was discharged on January 12, 1946. He served as a Gunner in Canada and Europe.
