VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 19 / 93 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND SEAMAN, William “Alfred” WWII William was born in Springfield on June 14, 1910, the son of William “James” Seaman and Sophia Elizabeth Brown. He attended Mount Allison University and graduated in 1935. He married Louise Van Duyn Trueman on July 21, 1936, in Truro. In 1937, he received his certificate of theology from Pine Hill Divinity Hall in Halifax. He joined the militia on August 2, 1940, as Chaplain for the Pictou Highlanders before being appointed full time with the Canadian Chaplain Service on May 15, 1942, as honourary captain. He was the father of two children before going overseas on June 25, 1943. On July 14, 1944, in France, he was severely wounded and died on July 21, 1944. SEAMAN, Arthur Donald WWII Arthur was born in Alberton District, son of Arthur and Mysie (Bell) Seaman. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 16, 1940 and was discharged on April 5, 1946. He served as a Private in Canada. ROY, Elmer WWII Petty Officer Elmer Roy was born in 1919, in Nine Mile Creek to Hector and Celina (Harrington) Campbell. His siblings were John, Pearl, Elsie, and Eileen. Roy joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Serving as Stoker and Leading Stoker. He volunteered when hostilities broke out and served until the end of the war. Roy served on a number of ships, including the Amherst, the Newfoundland and the Uganda. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific. After the war, he remained involved in the Naval Reserves. He farmed and trucked before becoming a fisheries officer in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Roy married Annie Louis. They had two children: Keith and Richard.
