VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 20 / 67 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND HOWATT, Richard Lea WWII Richard was born on March 17, 1923, in Tryon, the son of Everett Howatt and Clara Thomas. He enlisted in the Army on February 28, 1942 and arrived in England on May 26, 1942. He became a dispatch driver with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps and was sent to France in July 1944 where he was assigned to the 7th Medical Regiment. On October 20, 1944, he was wounded in a traffic accident and was evacuated to England. He was hospitalized for three months and returned to Europe on March 4, 1945 and was discharged on February 27, 1946. Richard passed away in 2003. HORTON, David Luke WWII David was born in Mount Albion, PEI in 1921. He enlisted in Charlottetown and served in the Canadian Army in England, also became missing in action in France, where he was wounded and became a Prisoner of War. He was discharged in 1945. David passed away in 1996. HORNE, Kenneth David WWII Kenneth was born in Bloomfield District, the son of Thomas “Elzie” and Margaret (MacAusland) Horne. He enlisted in the Navy on February 16, 1942 and was discharged on June 26, 1945. He served as an Able Seaman in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in Canada, NL, High Seas and Britain.
