VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 20 / 73 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND LLEWELLYN, Warren WWII Warren was born in Sturgeon, PEI in 1919. He served the Canadian Army. Warren is deceased. LEWIS, John Robert WWII John was born in Bloomfield District, the son of Harry and Jane (Butler) Lewis. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was discharged on February 13, 1946. He served as a Gunner in the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in England, Germany, France, Holland and Belgium. LEWIS, John R. WWII John was born in Cascumpeque, PEI in 1921, one of sixteen children of Harry Lewis Sr. and Janie (Butler) Lewis. He had three siblings: Alma, Florence and George volunteered for the wartime army. John joined in Charlottetown in 1941 and received training in Charlottetown and Petawawa, Ontario. He was assigned to the 105th Anti Tank Battery, 3rd Canadian AT Regiment centered in St. George, NB, then went with the 105th to Aldershot, England, and on with them to Normandy on D-Day. He went ashore at St-Aubin-sur-Mer minutes after the first wave of Infantry landed and faced terrible enemy fire. He advanced with the 105th to participate in the liberation of France, Belgium, and Holland and the defeat of Germany. John received honourable discharge in April 1946. He returned to PEI where he married Elsie Mae Dignan, raised three children and farmed until he retired. John received several medals including the War Medal 1939-1945, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Defence of England Medal, France and Germany Star, and the French Government Medal of Appreciation. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion O’Leary Branch 2 for around forty years. John passed away in 2011.
