He enlisted in the army in 1939 and served overseas with the Artillery 2nd Medium Battery, 1st Medium Regiment. He was discharged in 1945. Edgar is deceased. MacDONALD, Daniel J. WWII Honorable Daniel J. MacDonald was born in Souris, PEI in 1918. He enlisted in the army in 1940 in Charlottetown and served overseas until his discharge in 1945. He served in Canada, North Atlantic, United Kingdom and Central Mediterranean while with the PEI Highlanders and Cape Breton Highlanders. He was wounded while crossing the Senio River in Italy in 1944, losing an arm and leg. He was a member and past president of Souris Branch #3. He was elected in the Cardigan riding in 1962, and became Minister of Veteran Affairs serving from 1972 to 1980. Veteran Affairs Canada is located in Charlottetown and is named in his honor, the Daniel J. MacDonald Building. Daniel is deceased. MacDONALD, Archibald Cleveland “Cleve” WWII Cleve was born on March 17, 1924. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy. Following the war, he settled in Rice Point where he married Cynthia Betts. They had five children: Diane, Margaret, Bert, Anita and Roy. Cleve passed on October 26, 1987 in Rice Point.
