As soon as he became of age, he joined the Navy to become a member in the engine room branch. From 1950 through to the end of 1970, he served on many different ships. He was onboard HMCS Haida in Korea and was serving onboard HMCS Magnificent during the Suez Crisis. During the Atlantic Blockade when Russia was forced to remove nuclear missiles out of Cuba, he was serving onboard HMCS Cap de la Madeleine and he was serving onboard HMCS Micmac in the Baltic Sea when Russia launched Sputnik. The technical training Dugald received while in the navy enabled him to later become a millwright with interprovincial qualification. Dugald is married to Joan (Gillis) formerly from Lower Newton, PEI. They raised three daughters and two sons. In 2000, they returned to PEI to now live in Montague. MacMILLAN, Joseph Thomas WWII Joseph was born in Bloomfield District, the son of Leslie and Elizabeth Ann “Bessie” (Hardy) MacMillan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on April 17, 1941 and was discharged on April 9, 1946. He served as a Sergeant in the Butcher/Cook unit in Canada and NL. MacLEAN, Jim WWII Jim was born in Bloomfield District. He enlisted in the Army on March 9, 1942 and was discharged on August 14, 1945. He served as a Private in the Veterans Guard in Canada.
