VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 20 / 97 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND SKERRY, Ralph Leonard WWII Ralph was born in Alberton District, the son of John W. and Liza M. (Schroder) Skerry. He enlisted in the Army on November 10, 1939 and was killed in action on December 11, 1944. He served as a Private in the St. John Fusiliers, the Carleton and York Regiment, the Irish Regiment of Canada and the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. SKERRY, Joseph Edward WWII Joseph was born in Alberton District, the son of John and Agnes Gertrude (Perry) Skerry. He enlisted in the Army on January 17, 1942 and was discharged on February 19, 1946. He served as a Private in the #7 District Depot in the UK and Continental Europe. SHAW, Wilfred Walker WWII Wilfred was born in Nine Mile Creek to parents Augustus and Louise (Coughlin) Shaw. His siblings were Utley, Avard, John, Garfield, Bayfield, Holdon, Gordon, Perley, Lorne, Vera, Annie, Jean, Kenneth. Wilfred Shaw joined the navy in 1939 and served until 1945. He first shipped on the minesweeper Digby that sailed between Halifax and New York. Wilfred Shaw also served on the flower-class corvettes Mayflower, Fennell and Halifax sailing from Newfoundland to Londonderry. He fulfilled the rank of RDF (Radio Direction Finder) operator on the corvettes. Wilfred Shaw married Pearle Campbell. They had four children: David Roy, Eric Wilfred, Carol Eileen and Linda Beverly.
