WWII Harry S. was born in the Bloomfield District, son of John "Jake" and Sophie “Sadie” (Sweet) Murray. He enlisted in the Navy in March 1942 and was discharged in March 1945. He served as a Utility Boy and Second Stewart in the Merchant Marines in the Atlantic and Pacific. MURPHY, Frederick Austin WWII Frederick was born in the Alberton District, son of Austin and Janie (Skerry) Murphy. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1939 and was discharged in 1945. He served as a First Class Seaman in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. MOYNAGH, Ambrose WWII Ambrose was a flying Officer pilot from Souris, PEI. He served the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII, with Crew 2 of 407 Maritime Patrol Squadron. He was killed on April 25, 1944, in the Lockheed Ventura from Tofino’s 115 Bomber Reconnaissance Squadron as it crashed into Mt. Bolduc in the Comox Valley near Lake Cowichan in British Columbia. The twin engine Bentura had been returning to base from a night navigation exercise along the Straits of Juan de Fuca when the crash occurred. On November 14, 2003, 59 years later, a ten-acre parcel of land around the site was protected as an official Commonwealth Grave site.
