Request from Documentary Producer

Good afternoon,

A documentary film maker from France contacted us to see if we know of anyone they could profile in their project as described below. They are looking for Canadian Veterans (English or French speakers) who may have fought against the “12th panzer SS division during D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.”

Please contact the lady below, Christiane Ratiney, if you or any colleagues can help.

 Thanks,

…we are preparing a historical documentary film on the 12th panzer SS division. It is directed by Julien Johan (director of Children's war, 2018) and produced by ZED ; it will be broadcast on the main national public broadcaster, France 2. Zed is also in discussion with National Geographic.Julien Johan would like to interview some Canadian veteran who fought against the 12th panzer SS division during the D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.
He is especially looking for the remembrances of veterans who fought against them during the Battle of Caen or who were taken prisoners at the Abbaye d'Ardenne, or at Fontenay le Pesnel or at the Audrieu's Castle.

Their testimony is very important to make the viewers understand the kind of soldiers the Waffen SS of the 12th division were, raised in nazism ideology, enlisted at the time of the war cannot be won by the IIIrd Reich, led by officers who fought on the Eastern Front and responsible for war crimes there.
I would be grateful if you could help me locate some of these soldiers or give me any track that  could move forward my researches :
As far I know, most of them were members of :
- the Queen own's rifles,
-The North Nova Scotia Highlanders,
- The 27th infantry Regiment
- The Royal Winnipeg Rifles,
- 1st Battalion The Canadian Scottish Regiment,
- 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade
- Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa
Julien Johan would be glad to meet either English- or French-speaking veterans, next March. We plan come to Canada as well as to follow our interviewees in Normandy if they come for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day.
I thank you for your kind help and I am at your disposal for any useful information by email chratiney@gmail.com or on my cell +33687295708
