WWII D -DAY VETERANS - wanted

Comrades,

Please read the request below.  What is required is two D-Day Veterans with caregivers to attend two separate events (1 veteran per event)  at the Palm Springs Air Museum in Palm Springs California.  The museum proposes covering the cost of transportation and lodging for the veteran and a caregiver:

  • Canada Military Tribute on 2nd March
  • Air Museum yearly Gala on the 16th Feb

Every year there are thousands of Canadian Snowbirds who migrate to the Coachella Valley of Southern California to weather the winter. Many of them volunteer at the Palm Springs Air Museum but many more make a point of visiting the Museum every year. For many years now, to honour our neighbors from the Great White North, the Air Museum has hosted a Canadian Military Tribute Day, on the first Saturday in March. Last year they had the RCAF, Display CF 18 attend. This year the theme is "RCAF and the Battle for Normandy" ( https://palmspringsairmuseum.org/programs/canadian-military-tribute-rcaf-and-the-battle-for-normandy/ ). We hope to host, General Rick Hillier, OC, CMM, ONL, MSC, CD former Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Forces, we are reaching out to the Canadian Parachute Team the "Skyhawks" to attend. We'll be reaching out to the CF to have the "Honour Guard" be comprised of CF members whose current unit is recognized as having landed on the Normandy Beaches on D-Day. Of course, the "Pièce de résistance" would be having D-Day veterans of this battle. The museum is proposing hosting WW II Normandy veterans with a Caregiver for two separate events. One is the Canada Military Tribute on 2nd March mentioned above. A separate event is the Air Museum yearly Gala on the 16th Feb ( https://palmspringsairmuseum.org/gala/). Can the Canadian Legion reach out to it’s membership and help us identify deserving WW II D-Day veterans whom we can host for these events. The museum proposes covering the cost of transportation and lodging for a veteran and a caregiver, a rough itinerary would be travel on Friday. Event participation on Saturday, a free day or touring on Sunday and return on Monday. For your consideration.”

If you have anyone in mind please submit the D-Day veteran’s name and contact information to me by 30 Nov 18.
